YOUNG CLIMATE CHAMPION WINNER
India has the world’s largest youth population. We must inspire them to become Youth Champions for Climate Action. They need to understand the urgency and take immediate action to enable this. With the average age of the Indian population being 29 years, youth are a critical mass in driving the nation’s development and growth while helping to reduce carbon footprints.
As part of the JSW – The Times of India 13th Earth Care Awards, the Young Climate Champions Programme was launched in collaboration with Earth Day Network India to engage young minds through specially designed workshops conducted across colleges in India. The initiative aimed to identify and recognize innovative, practical, and scalable climate solutions that can be implemented and replicated to create a positive impact on the environment.
The programme successfully concluded its second edition with participation from institutions across all States and Union Territories of India.
It witnessed engagement from over 350 educational institutions, received more than 1,000 applications, and directly reached approximately 3,50,000 students and young changemakers through expert-led sessions conducted in online and hybrid formats across the country. The overwhelming response underscored the growing commitment of India’s youth towards climate action, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.

Reducing emissions and enhancing urban and rural air quality.

Protecting habitats, restoring degraded ecosystems, and safeguarding species.

Advancing energy efficiency, conservation, and sustainable energy adoption. Providing alternatives to carbon-emitting fuels. .

Building awareness, skills, and action for a greener future.

Minimising waste through reduction, reuse, recycling, and innovation.

Conserving water, improving quality, and ensuring equitable access.
Earth Day Network India is a trust registered in India since 2011, whose work is inspired by the global environmental NGO EARTHDAY.ORG™, which grew out of the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, and today engages with over 150,000 organisations in some 190 countries to take the environmental movement forward.
